All WSU Extension Educators are required to plan, carry out, evaluate and report the results of their educational efforts.   Reaching diverse audiences is an important aspect of this work

In order to carry out their work, WSU Extension Educators need to follow WSU policies and procedures for travel, leave, annual review, tenure professional development, and development of scholarly activities.

WSU Extension work may require developing resources in order to accomplish the goal.   These resources are useful in garnering and managing these resources within the university system.

Planning

Each year, all extension educators - department based and locally based - are required to develop a Plan of Action that is negotiated with their supervisor during annual review.   WSU Extension is using the Logic Model as an evaluation tool but it is also a fine planning tool when used in reverse - with the end outcome in mind.   University, college, extension, and department or unit strategic plans should also guide planning.   In addition, the WSU Extension Plan of Work will be helpful.

Reporting

WSU Extension Educators are required to submit the following reports as part of their employment:

WEMIS:  The Washington Extension Management Information System (WEMIS) is designed to collect and summarize data needed to meet federal and state accountability requirements.  It also provides summarized data to each contributor for documenting the extent and breadth of outreach. The main value of the WEMIS data is to allow program colleagues, such as teams or county office groups, regularly to review their outreach to underrepresented groups and people of color.

Annual Plan of Work (POW)

WSU Online Review and Query System (WORQS):  Annual accomplishment reports are to be submitted online through the WSU Online Review and Query System (WORQS) by the date specified each year (currently mid-January) so that the information can be used for annual reviews and WSU Extension reporting.  This is an expectation of the job.

The following tools are available to help you develop these reports.

Logic ModelWSU Extension places a high value on developing evaluative information about Extension programs to share with funding decision makers. In order to develop marketing tools that capture the impact of our programming, WSU Extension has adopted a planning and evaluation tool called the Logic Model.  We have incorporated the Logic Model format and language into the AICS system for both reporting and developing plans of work.  You may have noticed this change.  The Logic Model ties program planning and evaluation to achieving and documenting outcomes or changes that occur from an educational effort.  Documenting the outcomes of an educational program answers the question, "So what?"  It is modeled to address the difference programs make in peoples' lives and who is affected by the programming.  For definitions that will help with an understanding of the terms of the logic model, click on the following link: http://www1.uwex.edu/impacts/documents/glossary.pdf

WSU Extension personnel are to use the process and the language.  There is an on-line training program at the University of Wisconsin you can access at the following website:  http://www1.uwex.edu/ces/lmcourse/
